The significance of the bull is uncertain. It's often stated to be an Apis Bull, though sacrificial Mithraic bull was an earlier popular suggestion. In American Journal of Numismatics 12, 2000, David Woods notes that this bull doesn't follow the iconography for Apis or Mithraic bulls, and associates it instead with the solar Bull seen on this mint of Rome ![]() |
